Install Microsoft Expression Web 3 from the UW Network

Introduction

Note: Functional knowledge and use of this application is the responsibility of the user.

The University of Wyoming (UW) is a participating member of the Microsoft Academic Select License Program. As a member, UW is able to secure volume pricing on various Microsoft products. This significantly reduces the costs incurred by UW departments and colleges and some UW cooperating agencies.

For UW departments, Microsoft applications that are not included as part of the base Microsoft Office Professional packages fall under this program and are fee-based. Further information on this program, the eligibility requirements, and the necessary steps for attaining a license to a specific Microsoft product can be found on the UW Select Web page (www.uwyo.edu/InfoTech/Services/Software/select/), or call 766-3686.

For ease of installation of many Microsoft applications, Information Technology (IT) provides network installation points. These network locations are restricted to UWYO domain accounts, and the Microsoft licenses restrict the installation of these products to UW-owned computers only. For applications that are fee-based, you will not have access to the network location until a departmental IDR or procurement card (P-card) payment is received by IT.

Minimum System Requirements for Microsoft Expression Web 3

• Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
• Processor: 1 GHz or faster
• Memory (RAM): 1 GB or more
• Hard drive space: 1.5 GB available
• DVD compatible drive
• 1024 x 768 or higher resolution monitor
• .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 1 (installed during Procedure Step 1)
• Internet functionality requires Internet access
• Actual requirements and product functionality may vary based on your system configuration and operating system.

Note: These are the absolute minimum requirements for running Expression Web 3. Performance may be severely degraded if the computer resources are limited by a minimum configuration.

Procedure

1. Installing .NET Framework 3.5 with Service Pack 
   
   
   1. Go to the website www.microsoft.com/downloads.
       
   2. In the search bar at the top of the Microsoft Website, type .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1.
       
   3. Find and click on the title that reads .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1.
       
   4. When on the page titled Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1, click the download button.
       
   5. When asked to Run or Save, click Run.
       
   6. In the Security Warning screen, click Run.
       
   7. Follow the directions to install the software.
       
2. Installing Expression Web 3 from the Network
   
   
   1. Click the Start menu button, and click Run.
       
   2. In the Run window, in the Open box, type \\uwapps.uwyo.edu\expressionweb3$\setup.exe, and click OK.
      
      NOTE: Make sure that you have typed the correct slashes (i.e. \ and not /).

   3. If you get a Security Warning or a User Account Control screen, click Run or Yes.

   4. On the License agreement window, click Accept.

   5. On the Join the Customer Experience Improvement Program window, select No, and click Next.

   6. On the Installation window, leave them all checked, and click Install. The installation will now begin.

   7. On the Installation Complete window, click Finish.

3. Opening Microsoft Expression Web 3
   
   
   1. To open Microsoft Expression Web 3, click the Start menu button, point to All Programs (or Programs), point to Microsoft Expression, and click Microsoft Expression Web 3.
       
   2. To create a shortcut on your desktop for Microsoft Expression Web 3, click the Start menu button, point to All Programs (or Programs), point to Microsoft Expression, right-click and hold on Microsoft Expression Web 3, drag it to the desktop, then release the mouse. Click Create Shortcut(s) Here or Copy Here.
