Open a UW Basic Website (www or webdev) in Expression Web 3

For web authors that have experience with previous versions of Microsoft Expression Web, the process for opening UW sites located on the WWW and WEBDEV servers requires additional steps in Expression Web 3.

  1. Opening a UW basic website for the first time

    1. Go to Start, then select Computer (or My Computer in Windows XP).
    2. Click on Map network drive (or in Windows XP, go to Tools and select Map Network Drive).
    3. Select an unassigned drive letter and map a drive to your site, for example: \\www\sitename$ or \\webdev\sitename$.
    4. Open Expression Web 3, select the Site tab and then select Open Site.
    5. Next to the Location bar in the Open Site window, select Browse, and click on Computer in the left menu.
    6. Find the mapped drive for your website in the list (e.g. sitename$ (\\webdev) (L:)), and double-click on it to open that folder.
    7. Important: first click on any folder in the website’s folder list, so that it is highlighted, before clicking Open.
Once the site has been successfully opened it will be added to and can be opened from the Managed Sites list in the Open Site window.
  2. Opening additional sites while one website is already open

    • Expression Web 3 requires that you open a new instance of the program before opening a second website.
