2010 Keynote

Jeff Borden
Senior Director of Teaching & Learning, Pearson eCollege

Jeff BordenJeff earned an M.A in Rhetoric and Human Communication from the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, Colorado. He is currently in the dissertation phase of a Doctorate from Argosy University. For the past 15 years, Jeff has taught several upper and lower division Human Communication courses for the University of Northern Colorado, Metropolitan State College of Denver, and several Community Colleges in Colorado. In addition, Jeff was Program Coordinator of Basic Public Speaking & Rhetoric for the largest program of its kind in the United States at MSCD. As a professor, he has designed and taught dozens of online courses since 1998. In his position with eCollege, Jeff has assisted faculty, administrators, and trainers from diverse fields in conceptualizing and designing their online courses as well as given direction for total program success. He is often asked to speak and keynote at conferences as well as present workshops and seminars around effective teaching, learning styles, eLearning, authentic assessment, and general education topics. Jeff now reports directly to the President of Pearson eCollege to direct all matters of education and technology intersection. He is also a contributing writer to a monthly column for the eCollege portal site and continues to publish within his major field of study.

In addition to Jeff's academic service, he has also consulted for government, for-profit, and non-profit companies / organizations around the country in the areas of organizational, small group, intercultural, and interpersonal communication. Most recently, Jeff spoke to members of the Senate Subcommittee on Education regarding the future of education and how technology will potentially impact that. As well, Jeff has developed and presented a seminar series, "Teaching Master Teachers: Practical Teaching Applications." This series has been presented on several college campuses as well as to National Public Radio, ABC West, the American Association of Doctors, and in various other corporate settings. He has also published a workbook for public speaking (3rd ed.) as well as several articles and illustrations for various communication books. Jeff is a member of many speaking organizations and occasionally still performs stand-up comedy (which is how he paid for much of his schooling). In his "free" time, Jeff has written several plays and musicals, which have been performed at various locations around Colorado and he continues to try and publish the great American novel.

Janis Bruwelheide
Professor Curriculum & Instruction, Montana State University

Jeff BordenJanis Bruwelheide is recognized nationally as an intellectual property consultant, speaker, and workshop leader. The author of numerous papers and chapters on copyright and technology, she was responsible for revising and expanding The Copyright Primer: A Handbook for the American Library Association and National Education Association.

She has also appeared as a panelist on two PBS Adult Learning Services satellite programs dealing with copyright. In addition, she often presents workshops and conference sessions ononline course issues, design, and delivery. Janis is a professor, library media program coordinator, and project director for the Borderless Access to Training and Education Project at Montana State University. . This project has placed a graduate level Library Media Certificate program online as well as professional development for educators.
