1. Hybrid Cooling System

← Previous | Next →

A hybrid cooling system uses both closed-loop dry and wet units, arranged in parallel. The steam flow is split between air-cooled condensers (ACC) and a surface condenser coupled with a wet tower unit. The dry cooling unit employs ACC and is primarily used to serve the steam cycle. When the ambient air temperature reaches higher levels than the design, and the dry cooling unit cannot maintain a low turbine exhaust pressure, part of the exhaust steam is routed to the supplemental wet unit.

More information on the hybrid cooling system can be found in "IECM Technical Documentation: Development and Application of the Integrated Environmental Control Model for Power Plant Water Use Assessments (Final Report)", available in the Publications section of our website at https://www.iecm-online.com/. The hybrid cooling system may be used in all plant types.
