Community Summary
Technology That Connects, Empowers, and Advances Wyoming
Behind every classroom experience, student milestone, research breakthrough, and campus innovation is the technology that connects and advances UW's land-grant mission.
In FY2026, the University of Wyoming Information Technology (UWIT) continued to strengthen the digital foundation that supports teaching, learning, research, and engagement across the university and throughout Wyoming. Through strategic investments, collaborative partnerships, and a commitment to innovation and security, UWIT helped create new opportunities for students, faculty, staff, researchers, and communities across the state.
Supporting Student Success
Technology plays an increasingly important role in helping students navigate their academic journey. This year, UWIT partnered with campus leaders to begin implementing next-generation academic planning and degree management tools that will provide students and advisors with clearer pathways to graduation and greater visibility into academic progress.
UWIT also enhanced student-facing services by improving technology support during New Student Day events, streamlining onboarding processes, and making it easier for students to access essential campus resources. Together, these efforts help students spend less time navigating systems and more time focused on their success.
North and South Hall
The new North Hall and South Hall represent a major milestone in the university's commitment to providing modern, student-centered living and dining environments, demonstrating how technology can directly improve student experience. Through seamless integration of student ID cards, residence hall access, meal plans, room assignments, and mobile services, students benefit from a streamlined move-in process and convenient access to the resources they need from day one.
UWIT teams collaborated to create a connected living and dining environment with reliable Wi-Fi, modern audiovisual systems, digital signage, package lockers, dining applications, and enhanced security systems. These technologies improve communication, increase convenience, strengthen campus safety, and support student engagement both inside and outside the classroom.
The North and South Halls deliver secure, reliable, and student-focused technology solutions providing a strong foundation for student success while creating a welcoming and modern residential experience for the university community.
Foundations Empowering Research and Faculty
Research and scholarship drive discovery, innovation, and economic impact. UWIT strengthened support for faculty and researchers by simplifying research administration processes and improving systems that showcase faculty expertise, scholarly achievements, and research activity.
These improvements reduce administrative workload, improve access to reliable information, and help highlight the outstanding work being conducted across the University of Wyoming.
Featured Impact: Building the Future of Research and Innovation
As research increasingly relies on advanced computing and artificial intelligence, UWIT expanded the technology infrastructure that powers discovery.
Investments in high-performance computing, modernized infrastructure, and AI-ready capabilities provide researchers with the resources needed to tackle complex challenges, accelerate innovation, and explore new possibilities. By strengthening this foundation today, UWIT is helping position the university for the research opportunities of tomorrow.
Expanding Secure and Equitable Access to Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is transforming how people learn, teach, research, and work. To help the university harness these opportunities responsibly, UWIT led a collaborative effort involving university leadership, faculty, staff, and students to evaluate emerging AI technologies and establish a framework for their use.
This work resulted in the selection of BoodleBox, the university's first enterprise AI platform, providing secure and equitable access to leading AI tools through a centrally supported environment. By prioritizing security, privacy, accessibility, and governance, UWIT is helping the university embrace innovation while managing emerging risks responsibly.
Building Digital Skills
for the Future
Technology is most impactful when people have the confidence and skills to use it effectively.
During FY2026, UWIT delivered 90 workshops and open labs, maintained 17 online courses, and supported more than 2,200 training enrollments, the highest level of participation in five years. As interest in artificial intelligence continued to grow, UWIT expanded AI learning opportunities to help faculty, staff, and students understand and apply these technologies responsibly and effectively.
These programs are helping build a digitally confident university community prepared for an increasingly technology-driven future.
Strengthening Cybersecurity and Digital Safety
Protecting the university's people, systems, and information remains a critical priority.
This year, UWIT enhanced cybersecurity protections, expanded security monitoring capabilities, and increased awareness initiatives across campus. A significant milestone was the creation of a dedicated Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) role, strengthening leadership and coordination for cybersecurity strategy and risk management.
UWIT also provided cybersecurity awareness training to 4,778 employees, helping strengthen a culture of shared responsibility and resilience across the university. These efforts help safeguard institutional data, support business continuity, and protect the digital services relied upon every day.
Serving Wyoming
UWIT's impact extends far beyond campus.
By modernizing technology environments that support outreach, workforce development, entrepreneurship, education, and community engagement, UWIT continues to advance the university's statewide mission. Partnerships with organizations such as CyberWyoming expanded access to cybersecurity education and awareness programs while strengthening the technology infrastructure that supports collaboration and public service.
Through these efforts, UWIT helps connect expertise, opportunities, and resources with communities across Wyoming, extending the university's impact throughout the state.
