A fuel blend containing up to 3 fuels may be used as the primary fuel in a Pulverized Coal (PC) plant. The Config screen allows the percentage of each fuel in the blend to be specified. The following parameters are shown:
•Fuel Blend Percentages:
•Percentage of Fuel 1 in the Blend: This is the percentage of the first fuel in the blend. By default, it is calculated and is 100%, i.e. only one fuel is used. If you want to use more than one fuel, override this value and enter the percentage of the first fuel in your blend.
•Percentage of Fuel 2 in the Blend: This is the percentage of the second fuel in the blend. By default, it is calculated and its value is 100% - the percentage of fuel 1. If you want to use three fuels, override this value and enter the percentage of the second fuel in your blend. Note that the maximum for this percentage is its calculated value. If you specify a larger percentage, the maximum will be used.
•Percentage of Fuel 3 in the Blend: This is the percentage of the third fuel in the blend. Its value is 100% - the percentages of the first two fuels. This value is read-only and is provided for reference only.
This screen also shows any errors or warnings related to the fuel. If an error or warning is shown, there will be a highlighted note on the Fuel Properties screen(s) referring you to this screen. The following warnings may be shown:
•We recommend using at least 60% coal. - This is shown at all times as a note. It will be highlighted in yellow if the current blend does not include at least 60% coal.
•The oxyfuel model was not designed to handle biomass. We recommend only using coal with this model. - This is shown whenever an oxyfuel system is configured as a note. It will be highlighted in yellow if an oxyfuel system is loaded and the current blend includes biomass.
•This oxyfuel configuration requires sulfur < 0.5%. - This warning will be displayed, highlighted in yellow, if a low-sulfur oxyfuel configuration is loaded and the amount of sulfur in the fuel is too high.
•This oxyfuel configuration requires sulfur <= 1.5%. - This warning will be displayed, highlighted in yellow, if a medium-sulfur oxyfuel configuration is loaded and the amount of sulfur in the fuel is too high.
An error will be displayed if the model is unable to function correctly with the current primary fuel. Any error here will also trigger an error screen in the GET RESULTS program area. The following error may be displayed:
•Primary fuel HHV is too low. The model will not function correctly. - If the recommendation to use at least 60% coal is not followed, in extreme cases, the higher heating value (HHV) of the primary fuel may be too low, and the model may not be able to function correctly.
