James Delaney was appointed assistant professor at the University of Wyoming College of Law on August 26, 2003 and was granted tenure in 2009.  Professor Delaney serves currently on the faculty as the Centennial Distinguished Professor of Law. From July 2013 through August 2016, Professor Delaney served as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the College of Law.  He is an Academic Fellow of both the American College of Tax Counsel (ACTC) and the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC).  In 2012-2013, Professor Delaney was appointed as the Counsel to the Chief Judge of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C.

Before joining the Wyoming law faculty, Professor Delaney was a senior associate at Perkins Coie, LLP, Seattle, Washington. At Perkins Coie, LLP, he advised international and domestic clients on U.S. Federal tax matters in relation to corporate, partnership, estate, gift, and generation skipping transfer tax planning.

Prior to his tenure with Perkins Coie, LLP, Professor Delaney served as an Attorney Advisor to the Honorable Robert P. Ruwe, Judge, United States Tax Court. He also served as a student editor of the Florida Tax Review and Notes & Comments editor of the Gonzaga Law Review.

Professor Delaney's scholarly interests include domestic and international tax law with a focus on U.S. federal income, estate, gift and generation skipping transfer tax. 

He currently teaches courses in Federal Income Taxation, Taxation of Business Entities, Estate & Gift Taxation, Estate Planning, and Contract Law.
