A Message from the Provost: Week of 4.06.26

Dear Colleagues,
I would like to begin this week by welcoming Shane Reeves as the University of Wyoming’s next President. The Board of Trustees’ selection marks an important moment for our institution, and I know we will all be eager to work with President-Designate Reeves in the months ahead. Moments like this give us the chance to build on what’s working while stepping into what’s next, and I am confident that, together, we will continue to advance the strong foundation of academic excellence, student success, and service to the state that defines UW.
For those interested in learning more about the Budget Footnote Working Group, as mentioned in the campus message, the Board of Trustees has formed this group to carefully review the expectations in legislative Footnote 9. Our focus is on finding ways to improve institutional effectiveness without compromising our commitment to academic quality and mission. We will keep the campus informed as the work advances, and I value the collaboration and careful effort everyone is contributing.
I am pleased to share a new opportunity through the Jay Kemmerer WORTH Institute. The Kemmerer Faculty Fellowship Program supports applied research, workforce development, and statewide engagement related to Wyoming’s outdoor recreation, tourism, and hospitality economy. Applications for the 2026–2027 cycle are due April 17. I encourage you to learn more at this link here and to share this opportunity with colleagues. A big congratulations to the inaugural fellows, Dr. Sara Ghezzi and Bonnie Johnson!
All faculty are invited to participate in the April AI Faculty Development Sessions hosted by the UW AI Committee on Teaching & Learning. These sessions will offer practical guidance on integrating AI into teaching, course design, research, and student learning, with both in-person and Zoom options available. This is a timely opportunity to explore thoughtful, responsible, and creative uses of AI in higher education, and you can learn more and register for any of the sessions at this [microsoft forms] link.
Also coming up soon is our Spring 2026 Convocation next Wednesday, April 15 at 3:30 PM in the Union! This will be President Seidel’s final convocation, so come on over and enjoy the program and a celebratory reception afterwards thanking him for his years of service to UW.
Finally, on another celebratory note, I want to wish Dean Scott Beaulier the very best as he prepares to run the Boston Marathon once again later this month. We are proud to cheer him on and grateful for the many ways our colleagues continue to inspire us through their leadership, commitment, and perseverance.
Thank you, as always, for the work you do each day in support of our students, our colleagues, and the mission of the University of Wyoming.
Warm regards,
Anne
