Dear Colleagues,
As we conclude the academic year and transition into the summer rhythm, I would like
to take a moment to share a few key highlights and acknowledgments. During the summer
months, the Provost’s weekly message will be sent less frequently, but we’ll continue
to keep you informed as needed.
Commencement is always a joyful culmination of our collective efforts, and this year’s
ceremonies in Laramie and at UW Casper were no exception. In Laramie, we celebrated
with over 1400 graduates and their families in an atmosphere of pride and accomplishment.
Meanwhile, UW Casper hosted its 48th Spring Commencement on May 19, with a heartfelt
address by Dr. Maggi Murdock, a longtime UW leader and educator whose legacy continues
to inspire. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making these events memorable.
We were honored to recognize Professor Alyson Hagy as the Spring 2025 Honorary Marshal.
Professor Hagy was selected for her distinguished career and dedicated service to
UW. She led the stage party into the ceremony, carrying the University Mace, and was
celebrated with an on-screen tribute.
Congratulations, Professor Hagy, on this well-deserved recognition.
I also want to share that we will not hold the 2025 Buchanan Lecture, following the
passing of Jacque Buchanan, a beloved member of the UW community and wife of former
President Tom Buchanan. Out of respect for the Buchanan family and Tom’s longstanding
connection to the event, we believe it is appropriate to pause this year. We extend
our heartfelt condolences to the Buchanan family during this difficult time.
Thank you all for your hard work, your commitment to our students, and your contributions
to UW’s mission. Wishing you all a restful and rewarding summer.
Sincerely,
Scott
