Office of the Provost Updates: Week of 7.28.25
Published July 28, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
This message marks my last as Interim Provost. It has been a pleasure and an honor
to serve in this role during this time of transition and to get to know so many new
people on campus. The core mission of the University of Wyoming remains a strong
one and we provide an essential and valuable service to the state. Ultimately, the
people make UW a great institution. From every staff and faculty member to all the
undergraduate and graduate students, we all work toward the common goal of providing,
or receiving, an excellent and valuable education, engaging in research/creative activity,
and providing a variety of service. The more we can work together, the more success
we will have.
While we remain in a challenging time of uncertainty, the University of Wyoming must
continue to lead with our core values and mission. And my hope is that we can do
so by working together to solve our greatest challenges. Shared governance is all
our responsibilities, and we can make great decisions when we listen and communicate
well with one another.
As I continue in my role as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, I look forward
to continued collaboration with each of you. UW is in a time of transition, but Anne
Alexander has excellent experience as Interim Provost and she will be a kind and dedicated
leader for us all. Let’s keep doing the good and important work for UW and the state.
Thank you for everything that you do.
Following the School of Computing’s recent establishment as an independent academic
unit, we will begin organizing the national search for its inaugural Dean. Academic
Affairs will coordinate the process in the coming weeks and will share more details
soon about opportunities for campus engagement.
The search for the next Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is
currently paused, following consultation with the Board of Trustees. Due to ongoing
litigation involving the former Dean and the University, this pause is necessary and
in the best interest of the institution. The search is not canceled, and we will
provide updates as soon as we can move forward. In the meantime, sincere thanks to
Interim Dean Danny Dale for his ongoing leadership of CEPS during this important period.
The college remains in strong hands.
It has been a privilege to serve in this capacity. I am grateful for your support,
your ideas, your candid conversations, and your commitment to this university. I
look forward to continuing to work alongside you as we move forward together.
With appreciation and warm regards,
Scott
J. Scott Turpen
