Dear Colleagues,

Last week, I attended the EAB national conference and the Global Tech Summit in Jackson. Both events offered inspiring discussions about the future of higher education, particularly around data-informed decision-making, the evolving role of AI in teaching and research, and how universities can strengthen the bridge between innovation and community impact. It was a week that reminded me how closely UW’s goals align with national and global trends in higher education, and how our collective work is helping position Wyoming as a leader in these areas.

Next week, UW will welcome Dr. Simon Cullen, Visiting Research Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Civil Discourse at UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Civic Life and Leadership. Dr. Cullen will give a public talk on Tuesday, October 28, at 4 p.m. in the Student Union Family Room, followed by a reception. There will also be an opportunity for a Lunch and Learn workshop for instructors on “AI and Critical Thinking in the Classroom” on Tuesday, October 29, from 12–1 p.m. at the ECTL. Registration is required in advance; you can find the link here

The Office of Community Engagement has announced that applications are now open for the 2025–26 Community Engaged Faculty Institute (CEFI). The program helps faculty develop service-learning and community-engaged courses that connect students with Wyoming communities in meaningful ways. Applications are due Monday, October 27 and you can find the online link here. A big thanks to Erin Olsen Pueblitz and team for her leadership on this!

And finally, UW Giving Day 2025 kicks off today at noon, a wonderful celebration of the programs, scholarships, and initiatives that make a difference for our students. It’s always inspiring to see our community come together in support of UW. You can learn more here

Thank you, as always, for all you do for our students and for this university.

Warm regards,

Anne
