Dear Colleagues,

We begin this week with news from our staff community. Gwen Dailey, Assistant Director in the Wyoming Union, has been elected President of the UW Staff Senate, effective immediately. Please join me in congratulating Gwen and thanking her for stepping into this important leadership role on behalf of staff across campus.

UW Showcase is happening this Saturday, November 8. Registration remains open through Friday, and we already have nearly 200 prospective students, about 600 total guests, coming to campus. Thank you for the effort and care that all our advisors and colleagues have invested in making this year’s Showcase a great experience for our future students and their families. More details can be found on the Showcase website here

Before we head into another weekend, I want to share some information about food security resources for our UW community. With recent uncertainty surrounding the federal SNAP program, many students and employees may be feeling anxious about access to food assistance. The Pokes Center for Community Resources continues to support anyone through its on-campus pantry and outreach efforts and is located in the Union, 012C. We also have a large network of food share cabinets located throughout campus, offering easy access to non-perishable items. A full list of cabinet locations is available here. Additionally, the Wyoming Hunger Initiative has also distributed updated guidance for those visiting local pantries for the first time. If you or someone you know could use support, please use these resources available; we are ready and prepared to help.

As a note, I will be on annual leave soon, and in my absence, members of the Vice Provost team will continue these updates, or we may pause for a week, as schedules allow.

Before closing, I want to acknowledge the recent incident involving pumpkins displayed on campus that has prompted concern and discussion across many forums. We are grateful to those who responded quickly and appropriately to address the situation, and we are equally mindful that it has affected many across our campus in different ways. To anyone who has felt distress or concern as a result of these events, please know that you are valued and supported, and resources are available for anyone who may need them. Students can reach out to the University Counseling Center or the Dean of Students Office. Faculty and staff may also access confidential support through the Employee Assistance Program.

Please know we remain committed to ensuring that our campus remains a place of respect and connection for all. Thank you for your continued care for our students and each other.

Warm regards,
Anne
