Dear Colleagues,
I hope your week is starting well as we enter the final stretch of the semester. We
have just a few updates from Academic Affairs to share this week.
The UW Cowboy Battalion will perform ceremonial firing of the Army ROTC field cannon today, Thursday, December 4, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. inside War Memorial Stadium as part of the annual Branch Night celebration. Everyone is warmly invited to attend this important tradition honoring UW’s commissioning Cadets as they receive their branch assignments in the U.S. Army. The event will feature several cannon firings, conducted by trained Cadets under cadre supervision and following established safety procedures. Please note that the use of shotgun shells for this ceremony will produce louder reports than our standard blank rounds. Questions can be directed to the Army ROTC office at (307) 766-3390.
Academic Affairs has released the 2026 Guidelines and Instructions for Faculty Annual Reviews, along with this year’s key dates. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback that helped clarify language, streamline instructions, and reduce inconsistencies in the process. The faculty annual review cycle will officially start in January 2026, with completed reviews due to Academic Affairs via WyoFolio by March 16, 2026. Updated materials are available on the AA website under Academic Personnel and Annual Reviews (find the link here). Please contact us with any questions as you review the materials.
As we approach the end of the semester, I want to remind you that the Winter Commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, December 13, at 10:00am in the Arena Auditorium. Commencement is always a significant moment in the academic year, and I sincerely thank the faculty who participate, support, and celebrate our graduates. Your dedication, shown both on these special days and through the countless hours you dedicate throughout the year, makes this milestone possible for our students. I appreciate the care, energy, and commitment you bring to your teaching, mentoring, and scholarship.
Please join me in welcoming Scott Quillinan, who is serving as Acting Executive Director of the School of Energy Resources following Holly Krutka's transition. We appreciate Scott’s willingness to step into this role and his longstanding leadership within SER and Wyoming’s energy community. I also want to sincerely thank Holly Krutka for her many years of service, leadership, and significant contributions to the School of Energy Resources and the university. We wish her all the best in her next career chapter!
Thank you for all you do for our students, our university, and the state we serve. I wish everyone a productive week.
Warm regards,
Anne
