If you are interested in Academic Reinstatement, read through the process diagram below to view the steps you need to take to petition for reinstatement. Please note, decisions about reinstatement are made on a case by case basis and your petition may be denied if you do not follow all steps.

Deadline for Petitioning for reinstatement

Petitions for reinstatement must be turned in no later than January 9th, 2026 for the Spring 2026 semester. Students who miss this deadline will be encouraged to submit a petition for reinstatement the following semester.

Understanding the academic reinstatement process can be complex, so we've compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions to help clarify your path back to the University of Wyoming. The reinstatement process usually takes 1-2 weeks although this is situationally dependent. Your reinstatement process may take longer than 2 weeks.

The reinstatement process starts with you determining the amount of time since you were last enrolled at UW. Depending on that amount of time, you will either submit a petition for Academic Reinstatement or Immediate Reinstatement. Once your petition is submitted and you have submitted all required documentation - if required - then the reinstatement process will proceed.

You will be assigned an advisor in the ACES office.
