Stepping onto the University of Wyoming campus for the first time is an unforgettable experience. The sight of the iconic Steamboat logo, watching students walk through Prexy’s Pasture and the crisp Wyoming air all point to the beginning of an exciting new adventure.
Coming to New Student Days is a completely different experience than just visiting for a tour. This isn’t just a walk through campus, it’s your first real taste of how your life
would look as a UW student. During a normal visit, you get a glimpse of campus, but
during New Student Days you can fully immerse yourself in it. You’ll meet future classmates,
connect with faculty and start to find your place in the Cowboy community.
I remember my experience from New Student Day vividly. I was so nervous to be on campus
with my future classmates for the first time, I couldn't help but wonder if I’d find
my place and what this new chapter would hold. Walking through campus, everything
felt unfamiliar and intimidating, seeing the residence halls where I would live for a year, the consistent flow of students and the sheer excitement
in the air. But as the day went on, I started to feel more at home, meeting new people
who were just as eager and nervous as I was, exploring campus with my parents by my
side and realizing that I was about to be part of the UW community. By the end of
the day, I wasn’t just a visitor, I was a future Cowboy ready to embrace everything
UW had to offer.
Watching my sister go through the same process filled me with excitement, as I knew
that it was the beginning of an incredible experience for her. I saw the same nervous
anticipation in her eyes that I had once felt, but I also knew what awaited her: lifelong
friendships, unforgettable experiences and a sense of belonging within the Cowboy
community. As she navigated campus, met her future classmates and friends and started
to picture her own path at UW, I couldn’t help but feel proud. I knew that, just like
me, she would soon discover that New Student Days were more than just an introduction
to college, it was the first step in finding her place at a university that would
shape her future in ways she couldn’t even imagine yet.
New Student Days are absolutely worth the trip because they offer so much more than a regular campus visit. While a traditional tour gives you a look at facilities and a feel for the campus atmosphere, New Student Days immerse you in the full experience of being a UW student. You’re not just walking through classrooms, you’re engaging with faculty, connecting with students who will be in your classes and getting a real sense of what your life will look like in Laramie. You even get to register for a few of the first classes you will take at UW, setting you up for success from the very beginning. During New Student Days you’ll have the chance to ask current students questions, learn about campus resources and start building relationships that will make your transition to college smoother. By the time you leave, you won’t just feel like a prospective student, you’ll feel like a true part of UW.
So, if you’re debating whether to make the trip, take it from me, an out-of-state student, it’s absolutely worth it. New Student Day gives you an opportunity to embrace the Cowboy spirit, build connections and walk away feeling confident and excited for what’s ahead. The University of Wyoming isn’t just a place to earn a degree; it’s a community, a family and a home. And New Student Days are your first step in becoming part of it.
