Admission Requirements & Steps


First-Year Undergraduate Students

The University of Wyoming strives to provide accessible and affordable education to its students. Our admission is on a “rolling basis”, meaning you can apply anytime leading up to the next available semester start date. Please note that prospective international students must meet separate requirements. If you’re a transfer student, be sure to check out these admission details.

There is a non-refundable $40 application fee when you apply.

ACT/SAT test scores are still optional but can help you earn more financial assistance.

 

If you’ve earned college credit or courses, we'll need that info when you apply too.

Steps to Apply

Step 1

FILL OUT AN APPLICATION


Complete an online application for admission early in your senior of high school. This will ensure that you are eligible for as many scholarship opportunities as possible and that you will receive other admission information in a timely manner. There is a $40 non-refundable application fee when you apply.


You may also apply to the University of Wyoming using the Common Application
if you are applying to other Common App Member Schools.

 

Step 2

SUBMIT OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS


Have your official high school and/or college transcripts sent to UW Admissions.
Your transcripts must be sent directly from your school.
UW Admissions will provisionally admit students based on a six-semester transcript.

Step 3

SUBMIT YOUR ACT & SAT SCORES


Test scores are not currently required for undergraduate admission decisions to the University of Wyoming, however, they can help you with securing your highest potential dollar amount for our financial commitments. These financial awards are provisionally awarded to you when you’re admitted, so we highly recommend you submit them with your application materials. You can enter these codes when submitting your scores to schools.

Step 4

CREDIT FOR AP, IB, CLEP &
DUAL CREDIT COLLEGE COURSES


If you've taken Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or College Level Examination Program (CLEP) subject tests, please have an official copy of your scores sent directly to the UW Admissions Office from the testing agency.

For more information about college credit for AP, IB, or CLEP exams, visit Credit Available to Undergraduate Students, or call the UW Office of the Registrar at (307) 766-5272 and ask to speak with a credentials analyst.

 

 

 

 

Admission Requirements

We welcome all first-time students to apply and will consider each student based on their individual academic achievement. Be sure to check the requirements that are needed for scholarships, awards and other financial assistance opportunities!

 
NOTE: Test scores are not currently required for admission, but can impact your financial aid awards.

 

 

3.0 GPA score
A cumulative, unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale.)

 

21 ACT score
A minimum composite ACT scoreof 21 
OR an SAT score of 1060.

High School Success Curriculum


The following high school success curriculum is required for first-year students to be considered for admission to the University of Wyoming.

 

4 Year English
4 Years Math
4 Years Science

 

 

4 Years Social Science
4 Years Additional Coursework

 

 

MATH REQUIREMENTS: To include a college preparatory Algebra I, Algebra II, and geometry sequence.

SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS: One year must be from the physical sciences: physics, chemistry, or a college preparatory physical science course. The remaining years may be a combination of biological, life, physical, or earth/space science courses.

ADDITIONAL COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS: Students must also complete four years of FOREIGN LANGUAGE courses (one of which must be taken in grades 9-12), or FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS courses, or CAREER-VOCATIONAL EDUCATION courses, or some combination of those three disciplines. Two years must be sequenced in the same discipline.

Home School Student Admission Qualifications


We welcome our qualified home school students to apply to UW! Home school students must meet the same requirements as other high school graduates. The home school instructor should complete the Home School Credit Evaluation form and send it to the following:

General Education Development (GED) Credentials


Students who have earned their GED are encouraged to apply!


Requirements:

Applicants must have an average/overall score of at least 164 on the GED test.

Applicants less than 21 years old must submit ACT or SAT results to the UW Admissions Office.

Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age or your high school class must have graduated.
