Dr. Meyer joined the anthropology faculty as an assistant professor in 2025. He specializes in the archaeology of the earliest hunter-gatherers in North America as well as Formative era societies throughout the Intermountain West and Great Plains. He is particularly interested in archaeological sites and landscapes with evidence of long-term and repetitive occupation. He advocates for quantitative and hypothesis-driven research and commonly uses spatial statistics, geochronological and radiometric dating methods, lithic analysis, 3D modeling, and aerial imaging.
Kelton’s active field projects focus on Folsom campsites and bison kills in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado, Fremont corn storage (granaries) and defensive architecture in the Uintah Basin, stone driveline hunting sites in the alpine of Colorado and Wyoming, and lithic quarries found throughout the Rocky Mountains and Central High Plains. He recently established the Continental Divide Archaeological Center (CDAC) to support student and faculty research projects in the region.
Dr. Meyer is accepting applications from MA and PhD students interested in collaborative field research and working with site collections in curation facilities.
