Department of Visual Arts

The study of Art History offers an understanding of humanity’s diverse visual experiences and an exploration of the political, sociological, and cultural context that shapes the creation of art. Coursework in lecture and seminar format allows students to engage a diversity of cultures, time periods, and media. The BA degree in Art History offers a path to professionalization in museum work, academics/teaching, and arts management.

The degree in Art History offers students a course of study that will open up a broad and sophisticated window into the history of art. Closely linked to the museum studies minor curriculum, the BA degree has a robust vocational application. This degree provides preparation for entry into graduate school or for students who want to enter the workforce after their undergraduate education.
