Curious Creatures

Ann Simpson Artmobile

The current Artmobile exhibition Curious Creatures encourages discussion about the complex relationships we have with animals. Seventeen works of art, including etchings, lithographs, photographs, woodblock prints, and serigraphs, capture the curious creatures we have come to bond with as family, rely on for subsistence, or associate with the untamed wilderness.

Personified as kind, wise, wicked, or clever, animals are often used to teach valuable lessons about humanity while communicating beliefs about the world.

Curious Creatures encourages discussion about our fascination with animals, from their roles in stories and literature, through personal observations in daily life, and as the subject of study in art and science. What stories or truths have animals taught you? What kinds of animals inhabit your world? What are the creatures that capture your curiosity?
