Dean's Weekly Address

Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts & Sciences,

The month of August has been busy as we all prepare for the return of students and faculty to campus. Saddle Up begins soon and we’ll welcome our newest cohort of A&S Pokes to campus. There are several exciting things to look forward to this fall and I want to point out a couple important happenings.

Please mark your calendars for the upcoming UW Humanities Summit on October 8-9, 2024. The summit’s committee has assembled a powerhouse line up of speakers from across the country, Wyoming, and UW to shine a spotlight on the humanities and their value to our society. We have a website that provides more information, and it will be updated with new details regularly. Please plan to attend and have your students attend this important event. Learn more and register at https://www.uwyo.edu/as/humanities-summit/.

In addition, over the summer we received a major gift from a donor to establish the UW Bitcoin Research Institute housed in the College of Arts and Sciences in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies. This innovative and one-of-a-kind institute will develop important research and attract students to our college. You can learn more by visiting the website and reading the press release here.

This summer I have enjoyed a couple vacations away from the office, mostly in the mountains of Wyoming, but I’m excited to join you back on campus for another exciting academic year.

Most Sincerely,

J. Scott Turpen
