Dean's Weekly Address

Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,

I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the spring-like weather we’ve been having recently.

I’m excited to share that A&S outstanding graduate, Spitalleri finalist, Marshall finalist, and SPPAIS major, Maeve Knepper, is a recipient of the Payne scholarship. The Payne scholarship is a nationally competitive scholarship which offers $100,000 in graduate tuition and a guaranteed career in development in the U.S. State Department. This scholarship has a 2.3 percent acceptance rate. Congratulations, Maeve!

On Thursday night, I attended the Diverse Faculty Panel hosted by ODEI and the School of Graduate Education and sponsored by many UW colleges, including A&S. The event featured a panel discussion of diverse faculty. The event was well attended, and the conversation was insightful and valuable.

Yesterday was the beginning of Black History Month. UW Multicultural Affairs will host several events throughout the month to celebrate. You may follow them on social media to learn more about upcoming events.
