Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
I hope this message finds you well and rejuvenated after a restful break.
January is a time for budget building, and I have spent a lot of time the last two weeks meeting with each department to review their draft budgets. It is a good time to review and assess how we are allocating resources in the college. I appreciate all the hard work of our business managers and department heads on this important task.
This week I also spent many hours serving on the Strategic Enrollment Planning committee. This group reviewed and discussed many ideas to prioritize enrollment for UW’s future. There were some valuable ideas presented, and I’m interested to see the final plan as it continues to be developed.
The semester is just getting started, but there are already many exciting things taking place across the college. Congratulations to A&S student Ashton Hacke, who will be the keynote speaker at tonight's Wyoming Press Association banquet in Casper.
The Department of Anthropology has been busy. Randy Haas had his study "Stable isotope chemistry reveals plant-dominant diet among early foragers on the Andean Altiplano," published by the peer-reviewed journal PLOS ONE. Additionally, Melissa Murphy and Jason Toohey just had an article titled “A Monumental Stone Plaza at 4750 BP in the Cajamarca Valley of Peru” accepted into the peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal Science Advances. Well done to all on these accomplishments.
Here's to a semester filled with successes.
Welcome back and see you around campus!
Sincerely,
J. Scott Turpen
