Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
This week I travelled to Cody for a couple days to share information about the college during the Buffalo Bill Center of West board meeting. I also visited Heart Mountain and Aura Newlin, Executive Director of Heart Mountain, about some upcoming collaborations with the college and UW. The trip was busy and very productive.
Today I also write to announce the retirement of Laurie Sanchez as Director of Business Operations for the College of Arts and Sciences during the first week of July. Laurie has had a long and successful career at UW and has served in her current position since Paula Lutz was our dean. I am deeply grateful for Laurie’s commitment and service to the college. She has managed numerous crises and worked with several deans during her time in the dean’s office. She has been a superb member of our team and will be missed. Laurie has been a wonderful colleague through the years, and we all wish her the best in retirement. Thank you, Laurie, for all you have done for us.
Along the same lines, Carlee Hughes has been promoted to the position of Director of Business Operations. Carlee has worked in the dean’s office for nearly two years and has a thorough understanding of our budgets, procedures, staff centers, and policies. Carlee brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience to her new position, and I am excited to work with her in her new role. We are launching a search for the Assistant Director of Business Operations. If you, or someone you know, is interested in this position, please watch the HR website for the job posting. We are excited to bring in a new member to our excellent team.
I will be out next week on vacation, so no weekly address from me next Friday.
Most sincerely,
J. Scott Turpen
