Dean's Weekly Address

Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,

It has been a busy week following Spring Break.

The Humanities Event committee, led by Allie Kelly, Associate Professor in History and Anthropology, is making terrific progress. As you’ve likely heard, the Humanities Event is scheduled for October 8-9, 2024 and will bring in national speakers and researchers in the humanities for a discussion on the value of the humanities at a national level. The event will also highlight the great work we do for the humanities at UW and in Wyoming and how this work will positively impact our future. As the event continues to develop, we will keep you updated. Please reach out to Allie if you have questions.

Yesterday at the Board of Trustees meeting, I spoke with many members of the UW and A&S community who attended the meeting to learn more about the legislative budget bill as it relates to DEI and other important topics. The turnout was strong and the discussions were valuable. I am hopeful that we can continue to communicate and work together to find common ground on these important issues.

The A&S All-College meeting is scheduled for April 29. It will be held in the West Union Ballroom from 3-5 p.m. Cookies and coffee will be provided. I look forward to seeing you there.

Enjoy your weekend.

Most sincerely,

J. Scott Turpen
