Dean's Weekly Address

Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,

The UW Humanities Summit was a tremendous success, and we led a national discussion in the humanities. It was an inspiring event, filled with engaging presentations and lively discussions. It also highlighted some challenges that must be improved upon or better communicated.  These are conversations that are useful for us all.  The Summit also addressed local and regional ideas around the humanities. From the organizers and presenters to the students, staff, and faculty who participated, I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this three-day event. Your passion for your area of expertise is what makes A&S so special.  There will be follow-up discussions and plans for the future, so please join in and help us keep this important conversation moving forward.  Your participation and voices are important.

Congratulations to Modern and Classical Languages Professor Conxita Domènech, who was named Wyoming Teacher of the Year at the Wyoming Association of Language Teachers Annual Convention Friday night in Casper. Professor Domènech will now represent Wyoming in the Pacific Northwest Conference Region for Teacher of the Year.

In the spring of 2024, we asked departments to review or create department bylaws and to develop a strategic plan that aligns with both the college and university plans.  Both of these documents are expected to be completed by the end of this semester.  The Dean’s office has been receiving and reviewing many of these documents already, and we look forward to seeing your department’s documents soon.

I hope you enjoy a terrific fall weekend.

Sincerely,

J. Scott Turpen
