Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
As many of you know, UW's 10th annual Giving Day is next week, October 23-24, from noon to noon. This year, the College of Arts & Sciences is celebrating longtime former Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences Oliver Water by encouraging donors to give to the Oliver Walter Dean's Excellence Fund. Ollie, as he is affectionately known, was dean of the college for 23 years. This fund honors his commitment to the college and its faculty, students, and staff by investing in a wide range of ventures such as research projects, travel opportunities, and experiential learning. If (and only if!) the College of A&S achieves its total goal of 1,200 donors, I will play "Careless Whisper" on the saxophone during an upcoming public UW event (not sure how I let them talk me into this one đ). Stay tuned for more details. You can see all A&S campaigns here.
This week, an event titled âThere is Happiness: Celebrating the Life of Brad Watsonâ will take place October 23, at 5 p.m. in Room 506 of Coe Library. The event, which honors late UW creative writing Professor Brad Watson, will feature Watsonâs former students Kali Fajardo-Anstine, Caleb Johnson and Jenny Tinghui Zhang, as well as his friend, Joy Williams, who will read from Watsonâs book There Is Happiness, a posthumous collection of new and selected stories, published in July. I know many of you knew Bradâhe was a tremendous writer and professor. This event will be a wonderful tribute to his legacy.
Last week I attended the Wyoming Global Technology Summit in Jackson Hole. It was an interesting event, and I was able to make some valuable connections.
Have a great week.
