Dean's Weekly Address

Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,

I am thrilled to share the exciting news that the College of Arts & Sciences had a majorly successful UW Giving Day! We raised the most money of any other college or group on campus this year. This incredible accomplishment is a testament to your dedication and the efforts of everyone who helped make this day a success—thank you for your support for this important event. I’m also proud to announce that the Oliver Walter Dean’s Excellence fund performed exceptionally well. These funds will allow us to invest in a broad range of initiatives, including research projects, travel opportunities, and experiential learning ventures. This fund is a testament to Ollie's legacy on campus, and it's such a wonderful opportunity to be able to celebrate him in this way.

With that said, as I'm sure many of you know, not only did we raise a lot of funds, but we also far exceeded our goal of 1,200 donors, which—if you saw my last Weekly Address—means I will be performing "Careless Whisper" on the saxophone in the very near future at an upcoming UW event. More details to come on that.

Additionally, the Office of Academic Affairs, the President, and the Board of Trustees are in the process of identifying an Interim Dean for the college once I officially begin my appointment as Interim Provost. They are currently seeking letters of interest for the position which will begin November 25, 2024, and invite individuals who have held academic leadership positions at the department level or higher to submit a letter of interest and CV to provost@uwyo.edu by end of business on Monday, October 28, 2024. We have some excellent leadership in our college and I am confident there will be some strong candidates.

The Neltje Center is accepting proposals from faculty interested in bringing students to the Center for 3-5 day mini-residencies in Spring and Summer 2025. For more information and to submit a proposal, go to www.uwyo.edu/as/neltje-center and under UW Mini-Residencies, click the "Proposal Application" button.

Thank you again for all you do for the College of Arts & Sciences, and congratulations on a very successful Giving Day.

Go Pokes!

Sincerely,

J. Scott Turpen
