Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
The Provost’s resignation on Monday was big news this week. The college is working closely with Academic Affairs to ensure work continues to flow until an Interim Provost is in place later this month in the October Board of Trustees meeting. We are no stranger to change, so the college is working to be sure our students, staff, and faculty are not negatively impacted by this transition period.
The UW Humanities Summit kicks off on Monday next week. Don't miss this dynamic event, featuring national thought leaders from a variety of fields, as well as local and regional leaders and representatives. To see the full schedule for the Summit, click here. A special thank you to Allie Kelly, Peter Parolin, Clayleen Rivord and many others for all their efforts planning this event. I’m looking forward to celebrating the positive current state and future of the humanities next week.
Today, I stopped by the Griffith Speaker Series hosted by the Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology. The talk was riveting and highly impactful and there was excellent turnout.
Additionally, following the Humanities Summit, the Department of History will host a two-part symposium titled “The U.S. West Between World Wars” Thursday, Oct. 10. The first part, which will be held in Room 506 of Coe Library, will take place from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The symposium’s scholars will explore changes and challenges that emerged in the U.S. West between the two World Wars, from roughly 1917-1941. Part two of the symposium begins at 5:30 p.m. in the College of A&S auditorium and will feature a keynote presentation by award-winning author John Barry. You can learn more about this event here.
Have a great weekend, and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.
Sincerely,
J. Scott Turpen
