Dean's Weekly Address

Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,

I look forward to seeing our students, their families and friends, and our faculty at today’s A&S Thomson Honors Convocation at 2 pm in the A&S Auditorium. The convocation celebrates our A&S students’ achievements and will include a student presentation as well as keynote speech by former CEO of Macmillan Publishers, John Sargent. It will be a wonderful event. You can see the program here

Additionally, as part of its “Challenges to Democracy” lecture series, the School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies hosted its second event, a book launch, last Monday in the Wyoming Union Family Room. The discussion was led by Jean Garrison, Andrew Garner, Stephanie Anderson, and Peter Parolin.  These lectures have been informative and have encouraged productive conversation. Last week, I was in Cody where I met with folks from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and By Western Hands. The college continues to deepen our valuable connections with these groups in many ways that benefit our students and faculty.

On Sunday, I was at the Neltje Center near Sheridan where I participated in a student interdisciplinary project that was led by A&S faculty Nancy Small and Matthew Greenberg. “Thank you” for the invitation to participate!

This week has been busy with hosting the A&S Board of Visitors, our college advisory board. It’s always valuable to get together with this group to share news about the college and receive their input.  We have a terrific and engaged group.

I hope you enjoy the Homecoming festivities this week.

Sincerely,

J. Scott Turpen
