Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
Last Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming new students to campus during New Student Days and are welcoming even more students today during Transfer Student Days. These events are a great way to introduce our incoming students to campus and the College of Arts and Sciences, and I appreciate everyone who helps make them a success.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the CJ and Social Services Annual Job Fair—with over 170 students in attendance, it was a fantastic event! Thank you to everyone who helped make that event possible.
This afternoon, our graduate students will showcase their research in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at 2 p.m. in CR 214. If you have a moment, I encourage you to stop by and support them.
I'd also like to recognize Michala Drum, who was recently elected Staff Senate Treasurer. She will officially step into the role in July. Congratulations, Michala, and thank you for your dedication to representing staff.
Additionally, at the University level, I recognize that there continues to be a degree of uncertainty and change. We understand that there may be questions or concerns regarding the email on further guidance on state and federal actions that we received last week or other policy changes. We are actively working to seek answers, but if you have any lingering questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your department head or our office. We will be reviewing these matters, along with other policies and their possible implications, during our Department Heads meeting on Monday.
In times like these, it is often easy to lose sight of our core priorities. However, as always, our primary focus remains on the success and well-being of our students, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the continued advancement of our mission. This college is strengthened by an exceptional team of faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders, all of whom contribute to our ongoing success. That being said, as you may have seen, this morning, a letter from the Deans addressing concerns regarding some of the recent developments was sent to Interim Provost Turpen, President Seidel, and the Board of Trustees. We (I) felt it was important to reaffirm our commitment to collaborative decision making, shared governance, and transparency. I am hopeful that this will foster constructive dialogue and lead to a productive path forward for the institution.
Sincerely,
Adrienne Freng
