Dean's Weekly Address

Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,

I hope this message finds you well as we move through another busy and productive week here on campus.

I am pleased to share that we have hired Megan Moma as our new College Relations Representative. We are excited to have her join our team and look forward to all she will bring to our college’s outreach and engagement efforts. Welcome, Megan!

Last week, we celebrated the achievements of many students, including those recognized at the 50th UW Art Museum Juried Student Exhibition. It was exciting to be in a space surrounded by student work, which highlighted the incredible talent within our college.

I also had the opportunity to meet with representatives from three countries through EducationUSA, an organization dedicated to connecting international students with higher education opportunities in the U.S. These conversations helped reinforce the importance of fostering global connections.

This week the Music Department is hosting a number of artists during their UW Jazz Festival, an event that brings together talented musicians from across the region. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the vibrant music community at UW and hear some terrific jazz music.

On Friday of last week, Elsa Freise, this year’s recipient of the Larsh Bristol Photojournalism Fellowship, gave a public presentation about her work titled “Bison Tales: Capturing Conservation and Culture” in the Coe Library. Freise is a zoology major with a minor in journalism and spent last summer working alongside the crew of the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative and documenting its efforts in conservation. Read more about her work here.

Finally, as many of you know, UW has achieved R1 status—an important milestone that reflects UW’s commitment to high-level research and academic excellence. This designation places UW among the top research institutions in the country and is a testament to the hard work of everyone on campus. You can read more about this news here.

There are many upcoming events and activities, so be sure to keep an eye on the A&S calendar at https://www.uwyo.edu/as/calendar.html.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Adrienne Freng
