Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
I hope you’ve had a good week back on campus after spring break and are feeling prepared for the remainder of the semester. I wanted to share a few updates and upcoming events happening in our college and across campus.
This week, I had the opportunity to participate in the opening of the American College Dance Association conference, which is being hosted by UW Theatre & Dance. For four days (March 26-29), more than 350 dance enthusiasts from around the region will gather on campus to celebrate their shared passion for dance and community. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our programs and engage with visiting performers.
Additionally, I spent the day with the Central Committee and the Dean’s Executive Committee reviewing departmental position requests for the upcoming academic year. I appreciate everyone’s engagement in this process, which has significant impacts on our programs, departments, and students. While the number of available positions may be fewer than last year, we are optimistic about providing resources to address gaps within our departments.
As you may have seen in the statement from President Seidel on Wednesday, additional guidance has been provided regarding some of the policies at both the national and state levels. Staff Senate has also been sharing guidance. We will continue to work closely with our departments to determine what these changes mean for our students, faculty, and staff as we navigate these transitions.
Looking ahead, we have several upcoming events in the college:
3 Minute Thesis Competition – Graduate students will present using just one slide and three minutes to describe their research. This event will take place Friday, April 4, from 2-4 p.m. in CR 214.
Urban Bush Women Performance – The Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts is hosting a special event featuring the dance company Urban Bush Women. This will take place on Saturday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the A&S Auditorium. You can find tickets at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984.
Career/Graduate School Preparation Events – As we get close to graduation, and students are looking for summer internships/employment, or considering graduate school, please remind them of the three following events.
Tour de Grad School - The School of Graduate Education is hosting the College of Arts and Sciences Tour De Grad School event Tuesday, April 1, at 12 p.m. in Health Sciences 105. Students can learn about all graduate programs at UW and receive snacks and prizes.
Career Services will also host a Resume Review session for students on Wednesday, April 2, from 3-5 p.m. in the Big Horn Room of the Union.
CJ and Human Services Job Fair – This event is open to all students on Thursday, April 3, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Yellowstone Ballroom.
Thank you for all that you do to support our students and the mission of our college. I look forward to seeing many of you at these upcoming events.
Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Adrienne Freng
