Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
It has been a busy start to the semester for all of us, and I want to update you on a few things I have been working on.
The A&S Central Committee met for the first time this year and we kicked off our agenda by listening to “run through” presentations from our students who will be sharing their research at the upcoming A&S Honors Convocation on October 2nd at 2pm in the A&S Auditorium. We hope to see you there to celebrate our students! I am looking forward to working with the Central Committee again this year. It’s a great group of faculty and students who provide important input on awards and policy for the college.
This week I had the pleasure of speaking with the Frison Institute Board meeting. This group is associated with the Department of Anthropology. I provided an update on the college, and they asked some great questions about the direction of A&S and the university.
Today, I am attending the UW Foundation Board meeting. As UW considers a potential capital campaign, it will be important that our college continues our good communication with the UW Foundation and its Board.
This weekend, I will travel to Sheridan for a concert presented by UW music students and faculty at the Neltje Center. All seats for the concert have been reserved, and I’m looking forward to playing saxophone with my colleagues and our students.
Lastly, I want to congratulate Director of Business Operations for the College of Arts & Sciences Carlee Hughes on her recent invitation to participate in the NACUBO Emerging Leaders Program. This is a leadership development experience for high-potential finance and business staff at NACUBO-member colleges and universities. Congratulations, Carlee!
Sincerely,
J. Scott Turpen
