Greetings Staff and Faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences,
Monday’s A&S all-college meeting was a success. It was wonderful to see a “standing room only” turnout, discuss our future and vision for the college, and learn more about the faculty research taking place across the college afterward. We had 18 faculty from 8 departments display their research and creative activity. It was inspiring for all to engage and learn about the great work across our college. In my opening remarks, I shared thoughts on the significance of the College of Arts & Sciences and our future, especially the real, essential skills our graduates gain, and how we prepare them to be “Ready for Tomorrow’s World.” If you’d like to read or revisit my full remarks, you can find them on the A&S website.
I’d like to extend congratulations to Betsy Bress on receiving the True Grit Award and to Michaela Doyle for being named Employee of the Year at Staff Recognition Day earlier this week. Additionally, Carlee Hughes was recognized for 5 years of service. All of these honors reflect the meaningful contributions they make to our college every day.
I also encourage you to take part in the Undergraduate Research and Inquiry Across the Disciplines (URID) event on campus tomorrow. All sessions are open to the public, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand the impressive work our students are doing across the college. More information is available on the URID website.
Finally, we congratulate Stephanie Anderson on receiving the 2026 Excellence in Global Engagement Faculty Award. This award recognizes a UW faculty member who has demonstrated sustained excellence and leadership in global engagement. Congratulations, Stephanie, on this well-deserved recognition.
Have a great weekend.
J. Scott Turpen
