College of Arts & Sciences Hosts Humanities Summit Oct. 8-9
Join the nation's leading minds at the University of Wyoming Humanities Summit! On
October 8-9, 2024, the College of Arts and Sciences will host a landmark event—the
UW Humanities Summit. This national gathering promises to be a pivotal moment for
scholars, educators, and advocates of the humanities.

Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation Slated for Sept. 27
The College of Arts & Sciences will host the Keith and Thyra Thomson Honors Convocation
from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2024 in the A&S Auditorium. The Honors Convocation is
a yearly event established by the Thomson family to celebrate academic achievement
for undergraduate students of the College of Arts & Sciences. To learn more about

UW Giving Day Returns Oct. 23-24
UW Giving Day is returning this year on Oct. 23-24 from noon to noon. Every year,
thousands of passionate University of Wyoming supporters come together for 24 hours
to change the lives of students, to support remarkable educators and researchers,
and to give back to the programs that make a difference to Wyoming and the world.
On this year's UW Giving Day, we're celebrating former Dean of the College of A&S Oliver Walter's legacy on campus by encouraging donors to give to the Oliver Walter Dean's Excellence Fund! Learn more about this annual event at uwyo.edu/givingday.
Open Call for Residencies!
The Neltje Center, a UW arts-focused facility located 20 miles southeast of Sheridan,
invites A&S faculty to propose an intensive period of study, a multi-day project or
workshop with a small group of students any time during the 24-25 academic year or
summer semester. Mini-residencies typically last 3-4 days and are led by one or two
faculty on-site at the Neltje Center with a select group of 3-6 students or colleagues.
Additional housing for larger groups may be accommodated. Proposals are reviewed on
a rolling basis and dates are limited. Learn more and apply here.
UW Anthropology Student gets Manuscript Accepted into Alaska Journal of Anthropology
UW Ph.D. in anthropology student McKenna Litynski, Assistant Professor of Archaeology
Bree Doering, and colleagues recently had their manuscript accepted into the Alaska
Journal of Anthropology. Their research delves deep into the importance of lake fish
to Alaskans, as well as impressive technological innovations that Alaskans used to
get fish on the dinner table.
Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance Creates Work Across Three Continents
Matthew Greenberg, Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance, has created work across
three continents this summer. Greenberg premiered a new musical in Ljubljana, Slovenia,
developed through his Jentel Artist Residency at the Neltje Center for Excellence
and Creativity in the Arts. He acted in two world premiere plays and directed a new
play as a featured artist at The Last Frontier Theatre Festival in Valdez, Alaska.
He also helped produce a documentary, filming in Kyoto, Japan.
Assistant Professor of Sociology's Article Wins Award
The American Sociological Association's Section on Methodology recently honored UW
Assistant Professor of Sociology Ken Hanson's article "Networked Participants, Networked Meanings: Using Networks to Visualize Ethnographic
Data" with this year's "Outstanding Publication Award," which he received at the American
Sociological Association's Annual Meeting this year in Montreal, Canada.
Professor of Music Completes Four Pre-Concert Lectures in Jackson
Professor of Music Michael Griffith just completed four pre-concert lectures at the
Grand Teton Music Festival (GTMF) in Jackson Hole. The GTMF is a major international
orchestra festival, with top symphony players and guest from all over the world. Before
concerts, he spoke to audiences about programs with music by Bartok, Rachmaninoff
and Melody Eotvos. A little more than a week ago, he spoke about Mozart’s final opera,
The Magic Flute, which was presented as the final performances of the season.
UW Assistant Professor's Work to be Featured in Denver
After traveling to Perú as part of his College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Research
Grant in June 2024, Assistant Professor Shane Epping created a documentary photo project
that was recently accepted in a juried, solo exhibition at D'art Gallery in Denver, Colo.
School of Politics, Public Affairs, and International Studies Hosts Democracy Lecture
Series
SPPAIS is sponsoring a Fall 2024 Challenges to Democracy Lecture Series on campus
and across the state that will explore the many challenges to effective democratic
governance and potential solutions to the crisis facing liberal democracy in the US
and around the world. Events will take place throughout the fall 2024 semester on

Book Discussion Slated for Sept. 18
Join the School of Culture, Gender, and Social Justice and the Department of English
for a discussion of Professor Tracey Patton’s Newest Book, "A Nation's Undesirables:
Mixed-Race Children and Whiteness in the Post-Nazi Era."
This event will take place at 4:30 p.m., Sept. 18, in the Wyoming Union. Learn more about this event here.
Buchanan Center Kicks off Season in October
The Buchanan Center Special Events season kicks off on Saturday, October 5 with Gina
Chavez, Latin Grammy® nominee, internationally-acclaimed recording artist, wife, and
philanthropist.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. Tickets are on sale now here! To see more upcoming events, follow the Buchanan Center on Facebook.
