Western Thunder Marching Band Performs at Rose Parade!
Were you one of the many Poke fans who gathered around their TV on New Year's Day
to watch UW's Western Thunder Marching Band march in the 2025 Tournament of Roses
Parade? Band members proudly represented the Brown and Gold as they marched the renowned
5.5-mile parade route, captivating over 30 million onlookers and TV viewers. Additionally,
the band showcased their talents at the annual Band Fest hosted at Pasadena City College
and explored the vibrant attractions of the Los Angeles area.

UW Music Department Launches New Bachelor's Degree in Music Industry Studies
UW’s Doering Named President’s Distinguished Scholar
Bree Doering, an assistant professor in UW's Department of Anthropology, has been selected as the first President’s Distinguished Scholar. She is a highly accomplished scholar in the fields of anthropology and archaeology. She is published in several top-tier journals, including the Journal of Field Archaeology, PaleoAmerica, and others.
Epping Featured in Solo Photo Exhibition in Denver
UW Assistant Professor Shane Epping is being featured in a solo photo exhibition at D'art Gallery in Denver from January 16 - February 9, 2025. There was a formal reception on Saturday, January 25, from 1-4pm. This event was made possible by a 2023-2024 UW Arts and Sciences Faculty Creativity Grant.
Theatre & Dance Department Hosts Thespian Festival
The UW Theatre and Dance Department hosted 800 high school students from across the state Dec. 5-7 for the annual Thespian Festival. Students were able to take a variety of classes ranging from lighting design and acting to dance and makeup design.
UW Music Professor Travels to London
Dr. Michael Griffith, UW director of orchestral activities, recently attended the conference of the International Conductors Guild at the Royal College of Music in London. He a Past President of the ICG, and a member of the Advisory Board.
