Heeding the call to "go west young man," Charlie Brown's introduction to Wyoming began in Jackson Hole. As a teen, he hitchhiked from North Carolina to Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park where, for eight summers, he worked as a guide and naturalist on the Snake River. The lure of the Tetons was so strong that Brown transferred from UNC-Chapel Hill to UW. His political science degree helped prepare him for 16 years of public service as a Colorado state representative and Denver city councilman. Brown bleeds brown and gold. He is a lifelong member of the UW Alumni Association, Cowboy Joe Club, the President's Society, and he makes annual gifts to support the College of Arts and Sciences discretionary fund.
