The dew point temperature is measured using a Buck research 1011C chilled mirror hygrometer and is a base measurement available on all King Air deployments. Chilled mirror operating principles are exceptionally reliable and inherently repeatable. A chilled mirror hygrometer consists of a temperature-controlled mirror and an optical detection system.
During deployment real-time measurements of the dew point temperature are provided onboard the aircraft. Processed data of the dew point temperature is made available in netCDF files. Typically, these are made available within 24 hours after a flight.
The Buck research 1011C consists of a three stage thermoelectric cooler controlling the mirror temperature inside a small chamber through which the airflow passes.
