Fall is very much underway and the excitement from the 50th-anniversary celebration of our Economics Ph.D. program is still in the air! The event was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a public talk by Amazon's Dr. Min Gong and a special dinner that took us on a nostalgic journey back to the program's humble beginnings—when a mere $200 was a big ask! Now, we're proud to say we're ranked in the top 1% globally. The event was a grand reunion where alumni and faculty shared stories, achievements, and took us back to our 'ole oak tree' days of the 1970s. Don't 'pass by' the full recap here and view some of the photos highlighting the special weekend.
Revolutionizing Environmental Policy: UW Makes Waves in Science Journal
The Economics department is also at the forefront of a new approach to environmental policymaking as highlighted in the prestigious Science Journal. A recent paper by The Teton Group, a collective of economists led by Professor Todd Cherry, John S. Bugas Chair in UW’s Department of Economics, urges environmental regulators to adopt scientific experimentation as a standard practice. This method aims to replace guesswork with evidence-based strategies, enhancing the effectiveness of policies from pollution control to timber harvesting. Read more
2023 Career Fair: A Week of Preparation and a Day of Opportunity
The annual College of Business Career Fair, which took place on September 21st, was a landmark event, drawing a record 346 students and 75 employers. Our career team helped students get a jump on the fair a week earlier with our Career Fair Prep Week, where students honed their professional skills through a series of workshops. To ensure a level playing field, we distributed custom t-shirts for the event, allowing talent to shine over attire. If you are interested in learning more about the fair or how to participate in the future, please contact our team!

College of Business Shines at Homecoming: Golden Boot and More!

We clinched the coveted Golden Boot trophy, thanks to a 'Best Decorated' award for our Green Johnson Student Success Center, a second-place finish in wheelbarrow racing, and a third-place win in calf wrangling. Our parade float was the cherry on top, earning 'Best Use of Theme.' But the real win was our Student Success Center's clothing and supply drive, which made a lasting impact on students. Amidst the celebrations, we didn't forget to give back—the Green Johnson Student Success Center also hosted a clothing and supply drive for students.
