Career Services

When Peter M. Johnson (B.S. '72) and Paula Green Johnson (B.S. '72) launched the Peter M. & Paula Green Johnson Student Success Center at the University of Wyoming College of Business, they were trying to solve a basic problem. That is, how to help students get jobs in the fields they'd trained for at UW. Their answer to this fundamental question is a key reason they are co-recipients of the University Medallion Service Award for 2014.

Whether you are beginning your first semester of college or have been attending for a while, the new College of Business Peter M. and Paula Green Johnson Student Success Center has something to offer you. The Student Success Center is excited to promote a meaningful student experience at the College of Business, followed by an inspiring career after graduation.

The Peter M. & Paula Green Johnson Student Success Center Career Services Office provides a variety of support that can help you grow academically into a capable and confident learner.

Our career services staff assist students with:

  • Resume, Cover Letter, and LinkedIn Reviews
  • Mock interviews
  • Assistance with career events
  • EPIC milestones
  • Handshake
  • UW2Career
  • Internship search assistance and accreditation process
  • Corporate engagement and employer relations
  • Coordination and support of faculty careers
  • Experiential learning opportunities

The Student Success Center’s temporary location can be found on College of Business Lower Level 1, while phase one of a complete restructuring and renovation of the new Peter M. and Paula Green Johnson Student Success Center, which will include a dedicated entrance and an open floor plan, a reception and common area, flexible office space, interview and conference rooms and technology-rich sales simulation spaces, is slated to open in the 2020-21 academic year.

This is the first step in preparing for your professional career. Our office provides resources to strengthen your resume with scheduled reviews, online resources, and workshops around campus.

Cover Letter

Many employers may request a cover letter when applying. This is what separates those who provide only a resume. This is your chance to sell yourself and show the employer why you deserve the job. Don't stress, we provide the same outlets listed above, but for cover letters!

Professional Profiles

Building your digital image on social platforms is the new standard. Sign up on Handshake and LinkedIn, then refer to our resources, such as EPIC to help your accounts stand out from the rest.

Get some experience before you graduate, and apply for some credit too! Our office specializes in internships; we provide both resources to find internships, as well as offer credit after you obtain an internship. Learn more and apply for credit here.

Career Fairs

Career fairs are a useful outlet to meet a bunch of employers all in one location. These will pop up throughout the year and you can stop by our office to prepare yourself for them.

Handshake

This is the main outlet we use to connect business students with eager employers. Unlike other platforms, which still are useful, Handshake has employers looking specifically for our students. Learn more here.
