Technical Specialization
The number of new materials engineered each year create an enormous opportunity for structural engineers. Dr. Dolan's research is focused on design of concrete structures and high performance materials such as glass, Kevlar and carbon fibers for reinforcing new and existing structures.
Educational Activities
The H.T. Person chair is dedicated to improving undergraduate engineering education. Dr. Dolan is responsible for developing the annual freshman design challenge, arranging the H.T. Person homecoming lecture and developing new institutional initiatives for the college.
Most Recent Activities
- Subcommittee chairman, ACI318 - Building Code for Concrete Structures
- Coauthor, Design of Concrete Structures, McGraw-Hill, with A.H Nilson and D. Darwin
- Principal Investigator for investigation of Fiber Reinforced Plastics for highway structures sponsored by Federal Highway Administration.
- Development of anchor systems for fiber reinforced plastic tendons under a grant from the National Science Foundation and time behavior of non-metallic prestressing tendons for the Army Corp of Engineers.
