Celebrate With Your Fellow Graduates

This is a pivotal moment and we don’t want you to miss it as you graduate with your degree. That’s why we’re asking graduates to submit a video, boomerang or photo of your tassel turning or hooding on our Padlet message board. We will show these images at the end of the ceremony so you and your peers can celebrate together, even though we’re apart.

Spring 2020 press release

UW Plans Virtual Commencement

April 3, 2020

The University of Wyoming will not hold its traditional spring commencement ceremonies in May, due to concerns about large gatherings related to the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

Instead, the university is making plans for a virtual ceremony to be broadcast live Saturday, May 16. And other options are being developed for UW’s spring 2020 graduates to celebrate their accomplishments.

“Spring commencement is one of the great traditions of the university, something we all look forward to every year. The decision to modify the ceremonies this year is challenging for everyone,” Acting President Neil Theobald says. “However, under the circumstances, we really have no choice but to look for alternatives to the public gatherings on campus -- just as other universities across the country are doing...(continue reading)

FAQ'S 2020

Graduates have always received diplomas by mail after their degree verification is complete. This process can take up to 3 months. We don’t anticipate any changes to this process.

The link to the Virtual Commencement will be posted on this webpage on the morning of May 16th.

Graduates will need opt-in for these packages. All students who have declared a Spring 2020 or Summer 2020 graduation date in WyoWeb should have received an email on April 10th with a unique coupon code to redeem your keepsake package.

Students will not have to pay for our virtual ceremony package. Students can optionally purchase extra regalia components, like a robe, extra tassels, etc., if they would like.

Students do not need to do anything to notify us at this time. They should check the commencement website during our normal registration windows (October 2020 or March 2021) for instructions on how to register. Questions can be directed to the commencement coordinator, Courtney Thomson-Lichty, at 307-766-5123

The $25 graduation fee charged to your student account is for your degree evaluation and diploma processing. It is not related to the commencement ceremony.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to call the names of each student. Given the size of the 2020 graduating class, this would take several hours, and we don't think the special moment would translate in a virtual format. We are sharing printed programs with graduates' names in our keepsake packages, so graduates can have a permanent keepsake with their name. If hearing your name and crossing the stage is a can't-miss moment for you, we really hope you will join us at any future ceremony that works for you.

Yes! We would love for our graduates to do both.
