The purpose of the Student Government of the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming is to serve our fellow students in the best manner possible through accurate representation, professional interaction with campus programs and organizations, and responsible, effective leadership.
FYI (First-Year Institute) is a student-led leadership retreat that helps first-year students find their place on campus and make their initial year as successful as possible! The FYI program is run by student facilitators who are highly successful student leaders in their junior and senior years at UW. The FYI student facilitators plan numerous aspects of the institute and facilitate the majority of the leadership development activities. Participants in the program can expect to learn more about themselves as leaders, the vast involvement opportunities at UW, and meet other first-year students at UW.
ASUW First-Year Senate is the official student government for first-year students at the University of Wyoming. As a First-Year senator, you will work to make a difference in the student experience at the University of Wyoming through reviewing and recommending ASUW Student Senate legislative action and working with ASUW Senators and students-at-large on issues that affect campus life at the University of Wyoming. ASUW First-Year Senate will also provide substantial and valuable networking opportunities. Through your work as a First-Year senator, you will connect and build meaningful relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and elected officials from across the state of Wyoming. These connections will aid you in bettering your experiences as a student at the University of Wyoming.
The Multicultural Student Leadership Initiative (MSLI) is a leadership training program for students who support diversity and want to make a difference during their time at UW. MSLI was designed to support U.S. ethnic minority students and all students who want to promote diversity through leadership. MSLI helps first-year students (freshman or new transfers) develop the skills and social network to excel in future leadership roles on the UW campus.
The NTSC is an organization of students who advocate for the non-traditional student community of the University of Wyoming by identifying concerns, increasing awareness, and providing a collective voice to have an active role in the success of non-traditional student of the University of Wyoming.
Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement provides students with the ability to take a course for college credit that teaches them how to be a strong leader. For the 2018 semester SLCE is offering Intro to Student Leadership course (CNSL 2200-01). This dynamic course will enable students to explore and practice their personal leadership skills.
A small group of passionate, committed students who help determine the direction of the SLCE Office and our programs. It is our goal to be student-centered in all that we do, so student voices are very important! The SLCE Advisory Board provides student input for SLCE programs and events, assists with marketing and promotion, and participates in leadership and professional development opportunities.
Student Media gives University of Wyoming students valuable experience in writing, editing, advertising, sales, graphic design, photography and production through its publications with the guidance of professional staff members.
Women's Leadership provides leadership development for selected students, membership to the American Association of University Women, and an opportunity to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders.
