Dr. Camellia Moses Okpodu is a plant biochemist and professor with over 29 years in higher education. A graduate of NC State University, she earned her Ph.D. in plant physiology and biochemistry and completed postdoctoral work at Virginia Tech. She has served as Dean at both Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of Wyoming. A published scholar, playwright, and National Library of Congress ScienceMaker inductee, her work bridges science, culture, and education. She is also a proud mother of three accomplished daughters and a grandmother. Her current research explores coastal perspectives and environmental resilience through both scientific and creative lenses.

 

Brief Course Description - Plants, Women, and the Environment explores the intersection of botanical studies, environmental education, and social and environmental perspectives. Centered on the theme of “rooted resilience,” the course examines how plants and people interact with and impact the environment. Open to all students, it fosters a learning environment that values a wide range of perspectives and experiences.
