    Foundation of our Compensation Philosophy

    The university has a responsibility to the State Legislature and the people of Wyoming to develop and administer a comprehensive compensation program which demonstrates good stewardship of fiscal resources.

    Compensation Philosophy

    The university's compensation program must provide a framework by which we can attract, retain and motivate a workforce of the highest quality capable of meeting the University's mission.

    The university's compensation program shall be externally competitive and internally equitable to the extent possible based on available fiscal resources.

    The university seeks to promote an atmosphere where meritorious performance is valued and rewarded.

    HR Classification & Compensation Objectives 

    To provide good stewardship of fiscal resources and fulfill the University's compensation philosophy, the classification and compensation department endeavors to manage a system that provides for an equitable and fair pay system.  We do this by:

    • Maintaining a market-based benefited staff salary system through salary surveys, research and analyses.
    • Researching and determining updates to the salary (pay grade) matrix when warranted by changing economic and competitive factors.
    • Auditing new benefited staff positions and when current positions have significant changes.
    • Providing department reorganization and other organizational studies.
    • Providing training on compensation processes and procedures.
    • Making Fair Labor Standards Act exempt or non-exempt determinations.
    • Providing consultation when exceptions to pay policies are requested.
    • Providing interpretations of human resources policies and practices.
    • Providing employee accessibility and transparency to job descriptions and compensation practices.
    • Maintain compliance with State and Federal employment laws regarding compensation.
    • Overseeing and maintaining accurate information in WyoCloud HCM in regards to positions, titles, salary, and other class/comp data.
