Before coming to the University of Wyoming, Professor Kearley was Foreign, Comparative, & International Law Librarian and Associate Director of the Law Library at the University of Illinois College of Law and then Director of the Law Library and Professor of Law at Louisiana State University Law Center. 

Professor Kearley has been a visiting professor at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, and at the University of Washington in Seattle. He was a Fulbright research grant recipient and is co-author of Guide to Foreign Legal Materials: German. He taught International Security Law. His research interests revolve around the use of force in international law and Roman law.
