Student Practicum Director: Emily Harmon

I was born and raised in Cheyenne, and I've spent a significant amount of time in rural communities across the state. I earned my undergraduate degree in English from the University of Wyoming. I enjoyed my undergraduate degree and found it to be helpful preparation for law school in the reading and writing required of both and the recognition of the unifying needs and struggles of humans through the humanities. The need for end-of-life planning and legal services is one such universal need. 

My father is an attorney, and he sparked my interest in the law. My parents were raised in a rural northwestern Wyoming community, and they were both the first in their families to attend college. A significant aspect of my father’s private practice involves providing legal services in his rural hometown community. During my time in law school, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in research conducted by the Rural Law Center. Observing my father in his practice in conjunction with my research has made me aware of how critical access to justice is in rural Wyoming communities. 

The clinical programs at UW have a significant impact on access to justice for people in rural areas. I appreciate the opportunities for experiential learning at the College of Law, and I have greatly enjoyed my time with the Estate Planning Practicum. The clinic has seen significant growth over the last several semesters, and I am happy to contribute to those processes and objectives that support the expansion of our capacity for providing a platform for learning and service to the state of Wyoming. 

I am excited to continue my work at the Estate Planning Practicum, alongside our faculty director, Mario Rampulla.
