Family and Child Legal Advocacy Clinic

2025-2026 Student Clinic Director: Haley Rockwell

I was born and raised in Northern Colorado and wanted to stay close to home so I completed my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of Northern Colorado. While there I was also a Division I athlete on the women’s soccer team. I then earned my Master of Legal Studies from the University of Arizona, graduating magna cum laude.

Before law school, I worked as a Legal Assistant for the Town of Windsor, Colorado. That role gave me firsthand insight into the legal profession and solidified my decision to become an attorney.

I chose to attend the University of Wyoming College of Law because of its close-knit learning environment and its strong reputation in family law. One of the most impactful parts of my law school experience has been working with the Family and Child Legal Advocacy Clinic. The hands-on experience has deepened my commitment to family law and given me a meaningful opportunity to serve clients directly.

I first joined the clinic as the 2L Legal Assistant, where I learned invaluable skills under the guidance of Professor Dona Playton, Student Director Kayla Lyons, and fellow assistant Carson Lougee. Their mentorship and the collaborative environment helped shape both my practical skills and professional goals. Now, as the Student Director, I’m honored to continue supporting fellow students and ensuring our clients receive compassionate, effective legal services.

In addition to my clinic work, I completed a 40-hour mediation training, which has further fueled my interest in conflict resolution and alternative dispute methods, tools I know will be essential in my future practice.

After graduation, I plan to return to Colorado to begin my professional career in family law as I’m passionate about advocating for children and families. I’m excited to use the foundation I’ve built here at the University of Wyoming College of Law to make a positive impact in my home state.
