Libby/OverDrive

OverDrive is a virtual library that provides UW faculty, staff, and students with digital content such as eBooks and audiobooks. This virtual library is connected to UW Libraries and all Wyoming libraries, giving users access to eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, comics, and more.  

Libby is an app developed by OverDrive so that users can access their content on the go, right from their mobile device or tablet, such as a Kindle. Once the app is downloaded, sign in to UW Libraries using your UWYO username and password to gain access to the full range of media OverDrive has to offer. In addition to working on your mobile device, the Libby app is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Chromebook computers at this link. The app can also be used with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for on-the-go listening. 

 

Checking out your digital content is easier than ever with the Libby app. Titles may be checked out for 14 days but may be renewed if a request is made three or more days before the due date and if the item has no holds. There is no need to worry about late fees because items are automatically returned on the due date. Each user may check out 10 items at a time. 

 

Popular Reading

Are physical books more your thing? Our Popular Reading collection can be found on Level 1 of Coe Library and features many books in a variety of genres such as Young Adult (YA), popular fiction, popular nonfiction, horror/thriller, and fantasy. We even have a popular reading section in Spanish as well as popular reading children's section at the LRC. Popular Reading items may be checked out for 3 weeks and may be renewed once if the items has no holds.

 

Streaming Video

UW Libraries provides video streaming access to all UW faculty, staff, and students. Available videos may be accessed in a variety of ways including the UW Libraries homepage as well as many apps and websites outlined below.

 

To access and stream available videos through the UW Libraries homepage, begin by entering the title of the video or creator’s name into the QuickSearch box and click on the search icon. On the left side of the results page, make sure to filter the “Content Type” to “Videos” only. 

 

Films on Demand not only stream educational films, but educational video segments as well. Users can browse through over 35,000 titles and 250,000 video series/segments in categories such as STEM, Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, TedEd, Astronomy, and more. 

 

Kanopy, a collection of streaming videos licensed by UW Libraries, includes documentaries, indie films, foreign films, classics, and blockbuster movies. These are available for streaming at any time. 

 

Swank Digital Campus is a streaming platform provided by the University of Wyoming, which houses a collection of feature films available for streaming.  

 

Magazines

The University of Wyoming Libraries have an ample collection of journals and magazines. This includes academic journals, popular and historic magazines, and digital databases.

While most journal and magazine subscriptions are electronic, some print items are shelved at Coe Library and the Geology Library in the “Current Journals” section. Bound volumes of older issues are shelved in the “Bound Journals” section of these libraries. Journals and magazines older than six years are located in the Library Annex. They can be requested for hold and delivered to the branch of your choice by using the Hold For Me feature in our online catalog. 

 

The Libraries also provide a large collection in digital format. Titles such as Cosmopolitan, Time, Wired, People, and Forbes can all be accessed digitally when logged in with your UW credentials. Using the Journal Search page, users can find both digital and physical copies of many titles.

Newspapers

UW Libraries subscribes to many print editions of state and national newspapers. Not only do UW students, staff, and faculty have access to the physical versions of these newspapers, they have access to an even larger collection of digital newspapers as well. Users can access popular newspapers like the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post.

 

UW students, staff and faculty have full digital access to The New York Times news and digital content. This can be accessed through www.nytimes.com and The NYT app. New subscribers can activate their membership by visiting www.accessnyt.com, typing in their school's name and following the instructions based on their location. 

 

UW students, faculty and staff have full digital access to news and content from The Wall Street Journal via www.WSJ.com and the WSJ app. UW community members also receive access to WSJ+, a benefits program that gives members access to virtual events and offers curated newsletters, podcasts and exclusive benefits such as invites to talks and a free e-book each month. UW students, faculty and staff can activate their memberships by visiting https://WSJ.com/UWYO. 

 

For Washington Post access, UW students, faculty and staff can activate their unlimited access by visiting www.washingtonpost.com while connected on campus. Those off-campus can register for subscription access with their UWYO email account. Additionally, UW users can access content from The Washington Post app on their mobile devices.  

 

Language Learning

Are you planning to study abroad or just want to learn a new language? UW Libraries has resources that you can use to brush up on any of over 300 languages. Pronunciator is the world’s most comprehensive language-learning service, offering 315 languages to learn. It includes personalized courses, music, movies, and access to English as a second language (ESL) modules. Pronunciator can be accessed at this link using your UWYO domain credentials. Users have the ability to learn on both computers and mobile devices. 

Bluebird Languages is an app created by Pronunciator, which is available on Android and Apple smartphones and tablets. Read more about activating the app with UW credentials. 

 

Media Collection

UW Libraries Media Collection can be found on Level 1 of Coe Library. This collection has hundreds of physical DVDs and Blu-ray available for checkout. From classic movies to your television favorites, the Media Collection is sure to have something for you.
