Citation management
If you struggle with citations, Librarians can help you utilize Zotero, a citation management tool which helps you save and organize your citations.
Are you teaching a course?
Librarians are also available to work with classes of all levels that have a research component. Additionally, librarians can create materials, such a research guides or tutorials, that support your course assignments and goals. Arrange a class visit or request materials here.
Students and instructors may use the Libraries Course Reserves service to make readings and resources easily accessible to their students. This may include library owned physical resources, instructor owned texts, Internet links, videos, open access resources, etc. The UW Libraries offers appointments help you get started on creating your reading list and can answer questions about your specific class list.

Collections + Materials
The collections and materials at the University of Wyoming Libraries are curated to support the research, teaching, and learning needs of the university community. Spanning a wide range of disciplines, the Libraries' holdings include print and electronic books, academic journals, government documents, media resources, and unique archival materials. Special collections provide access to rare and historical documents that are invaluable for scholarly inquiry.
Digital Collections
UW Libraries is home to several digital repositories, including various digital collections, research data, and scholarly outputs.
- Wyoming Data Repository (WDR): A research data management system for the University of Wyoming and all Wyoming Community Colleges
- WyoScholar Digital Repository: An open-access repository of student publications, open-access faculty publications, and other forms of gray literature.

Emmett D. Chisum Special Collections
Emmett D. Chisum Special Collections primarily holds printed publications related to the American West from the late 19th century to the present.
- The Grace Raymond Hebard Collection: The most comprehensive collection of published materials about Wyoming history, culture and natural history.
- The Canoso Miniature Book Collection: This collection includes books smaller than 3 inches by 3 inches as well as a selection of artists' books.
- And more.
Popular Reading + Media
Coe Library houses numerous physical collections, including the Popular Reading and DVD/Blu-ray collections. These collections are located in Coe Library, Level 1.
- Videos: DVD/Blu-Ray collection of over 23,000 titles suitable for kindergarten through adult audiences. The collection features educational titles, as well as award-winning theatrical films and television series.
- Music: CD collection contains approximately 3,500 titles. The collection focuses on classical and jazz music.

Requesting Materials
To access materials outside of the Libraries collections, multiple services are available at no cost:
Interlibrary Loan (ILL): request books, media, journal articles, and other materials worldwide.
Prospector: request books, media, journal articles, and other materials from over 200 academic, public, and special libraries in Colorado.
Open Access + Publishing at the Libraries
Open access and publishing at the University of Wyoming reflect the institution’s commitment to broadening access to knowledge and fostering academic transparency. Through initiatives led by the University Libraries, researchers, faculty, and students are encouraged to make their scholarly work freely available to the public, enhancing visibility and impact while promoting equitable access to information. The university supports a range of open access publishing models and provides resources to help the campus community navigate copyright, licensing, and repository services. These efforts underscore the university's role in advancing open scholarship and supporting the global exchange of ideas.

Digital Scholarship, as part of the University Libraries, aims to assist the University of Wyoming community as they extend traditional methods of research and teaching using new media and digital technologies.
University of Wyoming Libraries is committed to advancing the creation and dissemination of knowledge through open access (OA) initiatives and equitable publishing practices.
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that are published under an open copyright license, frequently a Creative Commons license, that permits others to freely use, adapt, and share the material.
Spaces in the Libraries
Study Spaces
Coe Library and the Geology Library offer both quiet and group study spaces. Levels 3 and 4 of Coe Library are designated as quiet study. Groups study floors are located on levels 1, 2, and 5. Reservable Study Rooms are available at both Coe and Geology Libraries. Find an out-of-the-way spot in The Emmett D. Chisum Special Collections Reading Room or The Alma Doke McMurry Reading Room.
Computer Labs
Students have access to over 100 lab computers and docking stations throughout Coe and Geology Libraries, as well as access to computer labs and printing services across campus.

Digital Scholarship Center
Digital Scholarship Center, located in Coe Library, Rm 302, aims to assist the University of Wyoming community as they extend traditional methods of research and teaching using new media and digital technologies.
By providing expertise, technology, and space for these endeavors, Digital Scholarship will support faculty, staff, and students as they become more digital, entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary, and inclusive.
Creation + Collaboration Spaces
Coe Library houses creative and collaboration spaces, Coe Student Innovation Center (Coe SIC), a UWIN Makerspace Lab, and Studio Coe.
Studio Coe provides access to and support for various Adobe programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate), game development and virtual reality software (Visual Studio Code, Unity, Blender).
The equipment in the Coe SIC supports 3D printing and scanning; sewing, embroidery, vinyl cutting, and more.
